So apparently I have white coat blood pressure, meaning it gets higher when a doctor/nurse takes it. We took my blood pressure today and it was 107/67 when at the doctor's office it was 140/72 which is approaching high. However I'm going to monitor it every day for a week to get an average.
So that's it. My husband has a theory that I am tired because I am ADHD (or a least he has diagnosed me as such based on my personality and how I can hyperfocus on one thing and it will cause a lack of sleep). He says the adipex might be affecting me similar to how ritalin affects an ADD person in that it will calm me down even though it is a stimulant.
I'm going to speak with the doctor about it. It could also be that I'm not getting enough sleep at night time and no amount of stimulants can completely take away that tired feeling.

Forgot to mention
that i've lost more weight! On Tuesday evening (1/25/2011 or 4 days ago) I weighed in at the gym at 224.6 today I weighed 219.2 so I've lost 5.4 lbs in 4 days!
It will be interesting to see how much difference there is on the clinic scale compared to the gym scale as I weighed at the clinic and then ate dinner (my last big meal) before going to the gym.
Hopefully I see a decent amount lost at the clinic as well. I'm just sad that the first week is never really replicated. The first week is always when you loose the most. I'm anxious to see if I can lose 7 lbs total this week. I still have a few more days and only 1.6 lbs to lose.

Sleepy
So everything I know about adipex is it's supposed to make it harder to go to sleep than to wake up. Before I started taking adipex I was taking about 10 mg of melatonin to get to sleep at night (I've always struggled with being able to get to sleep). I was a bit worried about being tired enough to sleep so I decided to take only half a pill. I've noticed though that I get really tired in the afternoon. I'm taking naps like never before. My husband wants me to take the other half of the pill with my 10 am meal so I'm not so tired in the afternoon/evening, but 1. I'm cheap and want to cut my pill costs from $50 a month to $25 a month and 2. if this dose starts to lose it's effect I want to be able to take a whole pill instead of increasing to one and a half or two pills and 3. like other drugs, you can develop an attachment to adipex and I don't want that to happen.
I'm going to check my blood pressure today at the gym to make sure it's not gotten too high as that can be a common sign of daytime sleepiness. I've never had high blood pressure so hopefully this is just how I react to the medicine, kind of like those mom's who say benadryl makes their kids hyperactive instead of sleepy, I'm hoping that is the case with me.
Another possibility is that I'm doing much more than normal and half a pill may not be enough to cause insomnia. Mainly I'm great during the day as long as I'm up and doing something. Yesterday we went to the park and I stood almost the whole two hours without having pain (which is amazing as I normally can stand no longer than about 5 minutes without experiencing pain and needing to sit down). I was out in the sun and fine. But as soon as we got home and got the kids down for a nap, I went to my room to watch some tv and I fell asleep. Part of the problem could be that I haven't gotten to sleep before midnight for about the past week (and sometimes not until 2 am), though this is not from a lack of being tired so much as the kids were arguing for a long time while trying to go to sleep (they share rooms) and I had school work etc.
Anyway we are leaving for the gym in about an hour so I will check my blood pressure before I work out and see what's going on.

DON'T SKIP MEALS!!!
That's my new rule. Today it was 72 degrees. I got to go to the gym this morning and while blow drying my hair in the locker room decided to see if my friend wanted to have a playdate at the park for our kids since I had the car for the day.
So I decided to get a quick protein shake but didn't explain myself well enough to the guy making it and instead of getting about 200 calories in it I got somewhere between 40 and 80. So my 80 cal toast that morning plus my 40-80 cal protein shake at 10:30 meant that I only had 120-160 calories from the time I got up at 7 until 4 pm and I had 6 miles of high intensity interval training on the bike today (20+ miles per hour the whole time, my heart rate was in the 170's)!
When I got home I made a quick tuna fish sandwich (245 calories) and instead of saving the other half for dinner I ate the rest of the can on another sandwich. And then a 60 cal pudding cup with 4 strawberries.
Then the kids took a late nap and didn't wake up until 7 so we took them to chick-fil-a to play on the playground etc. I had the chargrilled chicken and fruit salad which was awesome, only I made the mistake of getting the thousand island dressing instead of a basalmic vinaigrette and the dressing had more calories than the salad (though my 2 year old helped me eat a lot of the fruit and some chicken so really I only had about 80% of the calories). My salad was 605 calories total (including what my 2 yr old ate... I'm guessing I really only had about 500 calories of it but I'm counting it all).
Total calories for the day? 1324 and 8+ glasses of water. It would have been super easy to stick to 1200 calories today, I just shouldn't have skipped a meal and I would have been fine. I really credit the adipex for the appetite suppression.
And a girl from the gym has some sublingual hcg drops that she might give me. She is just checking to make sure her mom doesn't want them. So yay for that!

End of day two
Did not get to weigh myself today because we did not go to the gym. Makes me sound like a slacker but my husband and I went to see Bill Bellamy's Lady's Night Comedy Tour as a treat for my birthday.
Later we ate at Logan's Road House.
I'm sad to say that I didn't just order a chicken breast and water. However the good news is that normally I would have been full on rolls and Dr Pepper by the time my entree came, tonight though, I limited myself to one glass of Dr Pepper and drank water the rest of the time and only had two rolls. I had a salad with some steak pieces to add protein.
All together I'd still say my meal was 1500 calories total, which isn't too bad when you look at what I ate the rest of the day. And since I cleaned a lot today as my exercise I'm thinking that today will be a wash instead of a diet breaker.
But no matter, it was fine. This was my birthday date with my husband and we rarely get to eat out.
Also as a side note, even though I had only eaten about 1000 calories earlier in the day, I still wasn't super hungry when we ate dinner at 10 pm (another no-no, I know... say that 10 times fast). So the adipex is definitely working to suppress my appetite.
Now it's time to go to bed. I'll be anxious to see how I feel during the day when I've finally been able to get a full night's sleep. Here's hoping we can be in bed by our usual 8pm tomorrow :)
Oh and on an unrelated note, be very happy for us, we paid of our vehicle today. Sure we only have one vehicle, but it belongs to us! We can go pick up the lien release at any time!

Day 2
This morning I got up a bit earlier than normal (around 6:45 instead of 7) I made some toast with the 40 calorie nature's own bread (I said it was 35 calories yesterday but looking at it more closely today it is 40 calories the 35 was some percentage of something else). Instead of honey butter I used about 30 sprays or spray butter. So even though it says 1 spray has no calories, and 5 sprays has no calories (but it has 1% of sodium compared to no sodium in one spray) I'm guessing there were some calories in this. So since they say no calories in 5 sprays, I'm going to assign 1 calorie per 5 sprays and say that was 6 calories. Cause I can't believe there are absolutely no calories in it. So 86 calories for breakfast. And I'm already had 20 oz of water, so I'm doing pretty good!
For some reason I am tired. Like I could go take a nap right now. Which is strange because the adipex is supposed to give me energy. I wonder if it's just because I'm not getting enough sleep. I tried to get into bed last night by 10 but my kids would not go to sleep even though they had been in bed since about 8:30.
So I fell asleep shortly after 11. I didn't quite get a full 8 hours last night, but I know I need to. I find that if I'm up doing something I'm fine, but if I'm sitting doing my homework or reading I start to yawn. Maybe it's just the homework? lol

WOW!
Guess who has lost 3.8 lbs in 24 hours? Me! Yay! It's too soon to tell if it is really the hcg, or perhaps all the water I drank today flushed out some sodium with it or something.
This was wearing almost the exact same outfit (t-shirt and capris) and on the gym scale.
So yesterday at the gym I weighed 224.6 and today I weigh 220.8! Yay!
I can't believe it. Anyway we will see. Only time will tell what exactly is going on. I stuck to my calorie range for the day (1182). In fact it hit it exactly lol.
This afternoon I had a Jello Pudding Cup (the whipped decadence dark chocolate one) for 60 calories
then I was able to take a brief nap (until my husband came home and turned on the bedroom light astonished that I was sleeping and that the house was still a mess while I'm taking my "speed". And then I made the kids dinner and I didn't take one bite. I was so proud of myself. I was super hungry. Instead I drank some water, and ate a strawberry.
Oh and I had a piece of gum. Crap I guess I'm over cause it wasn't sugar free gum lol.
Drank more water while working out. Did some interval training and came home.
For my dinner I had a tuna fish sandwich on wheat bread with a slice of american cheese and a bit of the mayo made with olive oil. My total sandwich was 285 calories. Then I had another 60 calorie sugar free pudding thing and used 3 strawberries as a spoon. It was yummy.
I wanted to be in bed asleep 28 minutes ago but my kids have been crazy. I took 10 mg of melatonin (don't worry the Doctor knows I'm taking it and said it is fine) to help me fall asleep. So I'm going to go to bed and read until I fall asleep.
I'm so excited to see what the scale says tomorrow!

Can I really do this?
Ok so I splurged for Lunch... :(
I had a small salad with 1.5 servings of Caesar Vinaigrette dressing and a few slivered almonds (I mean a very few) I sprinkled on some chopped pecans and walnuts. The whole thing was about 230 calories.
Then I was still a bit hungry and didn't want to eat too much dressing because of the fat and sodium (it's surprisingly low calorie for salad dressing) and something a bit sweet sounded good. So I had 1/2 a cup of life cereal and 1/2 a cup of whole milk (I forgot to pick up some skim last night at the store and I don't know why I did 1/2 a cup of milk when I should have done 1/4, it was like a bowl of milk with some cereal flakes in it lol). Then I added in two medium sized sliced strawberries. It hit the spot.
So I started typing this blog about 10 minutes ago and then had to go switch over the laundry since we are washing my son's favorite blankie and he was panicking, then I went to check on the two kids that went upstairs, and now I'm back finishing the blog.
I can honestly say, I am a little bit full. I've consumed about 754 calories today which means I only have about 428 left of my daily amount. That's not a lot. I'm going to have to spread things out a bit more in the morning/afternoon. I can't believe I'm full though. Normally I could have eaten 754 calories for one meal. In fact most people can. So I'm going to say that the hcg and the adipex are working.
I've gotten a bit tired today which seems strange since adipex is basically legal speed, but I guess even legal speed won't keep you going, going, going, all day when you went to bed around 2 am the night before and woke up at 7 am.
I'm going to see if I can take a quick nap before we go to the gym. This will be the test to see how the adipex will affect my sleeping. I have a feeling that I might lay down and yawn but my mind might continue to race.
I'm hoping to be asleep by 10pm tonight and no later. Tomorrow I have a friend from high school coming over with her son. We are going to do an indoor picnic.
Can I really do this? 1182 calories is going to be hard for me. 1500 I can do, but I want to stick with the program. The program calls for 1200 calories a day, but for my weight and height I should eat 1182 to lose 2 lbs a week if I am sedentary. Hopefully since I will also be exercising I will be able to lose 3+ lbs a week.
I'm planning on doing high intensity interval training on the stationary bike today, or possibly doing some TRX. We will see.

So far
Today has been my first day taking the adipex and yesterday was the first day I got an hcg shot. So far I'm only taking half a pill of adipex. I am such a chatty cathy on this stuff. And for some reason it makes me sentimental. I just spilled my guts on facebook to my sister-in-law about how much I appreciate her. Which is strange because even though everything I said is true, I normally do not speak with her that often. We don't have a ton in common and she lives about an hour away so we don't see each but once every few months.
Here is what i've eaten so far today
Breakfast: 2 slices of Nature's Own 35 cal toast with some honey butter on top.
Okay the honey butter was bad. I didn't even think to look at the calories or fat, I just new that I needed to take my pill with medicine and I was excited and I had just woken up and was a bit out of it still. I do have spray butter that I will start using tomorrow.
Morning Snack: One small granny smith apple and a sargento's sharp cheddar cheese stick.
So far today I've had about 330 calories and I'm not really hungry. In fact I wasn't hungry either time (though I normally don't eat breakfast) but I know I need to keep my metabolism going. So I'm trying to eat every 3. hours. I think for lunch (around 1 pm) I will have a small salad. A whole bag of the store bought salad mix only has 45 calories. I also bought some slivered almonds, crushed pecans, and crushed walnuts to add some protein. I don't know the exact serving sizes but almonds are great for protein and pecans and walnuts are not that bad either.
I plan on only using a little bit just to add some texture and flavor. I also bought some different dressings last night a Caesar Vinaigrette one other Vinaigrette (don't remember exactly which it was right now).
Obviously the most calories will come from the dressing. I'm going to measure them so I'm not getting a huge serving.

Put that thing back where it came from, or so help me, so help m so help me, and CUT!
When I look in the mirror and see my stomach and my bubbies, this is the song that comes to mind. For those that don't know, it is a song from the movie Monster's Inc. Sully and Mike are arguing over putting Boo back through a door that is not her house and some people see them and ask what they are doing, so Mike turns it into a song for their company musical he says "it's called Put That Thing Back Where It Came From Or So Help Me"
Anyway this is my weight loss blog. My goal is to lose 60 lbs by May 21st (the tenative date for my 10 year high school reunion).
I've had four kids and four c-sections so I'm pretty Gah-Ross looking right now. I've already lost a bunch of weight on my own. The day that I delivered my 4th baby I weighed 95 lbs more than I did when I got pregnant with my first. I was a whopping 270 lbs. My normal weight before I had my daughter was 170-175 without trying to do anything. Sounds like a lot but I was about a size 12 at that point.
Yesterday I went to a weight loss clinic to get started taking hcg shots and adipex (phentermine). I know how to lose weight, and at one point I had already lost 58lbs, however my children like to stay sick from October to April so I haven't been able to go to the gym regularly. I'm also in school full time. I take classes online from our local community college and last semester was really stressful as I had 3 classes that were in an 8 week format. So they were very condensed and I had a ton of work. Then we had the holidays too. I generally end up eating the least of all my family during the holidays, so it wasn't thanksgiving and christmas that made me gain back weight. It was being stressed during finals and having cold weather and making big pots of chili and stew.
I don't really care for sweets that much, though I do like soda. My main problem is I love salty comfort food like chili, taco soup, stew, a big huge plate of pasta with marinara sauce. And instead of dessert, I'll normally have a second serving (which calorie wise is probably more like an extra 2 servings because those things are very dense and a normal size bowl full is a ton more calories and sodium than anyone needs).
So I had lost 7 lbs, but then very quickly put back 9.4 lbs. My jeans from my husband's Christmas party, do not fit me :(
So I've decided that since I love to eat and I eat out of boredom, that perhaps an appetite suppressant would help. So I went to the clinic yesterday and had my first weigh in.
The scale said 218 lbs which would mean I'm still down 52 lbs from the day I had my last child (which was April 21st 2009 so he is about 22 months old right now). I lost the majority of that weight within 3 months of having my soon. That's part of the joys of having a kids is seeing a bunch of weight melt off really fast. Plus I had him in the spring so 6 weeks later (once my c-section was healed), I was good to go. I worked out all summer and was eating pretty decently.
So I've maintained a weight loss between 50-60 lbs for 19 months. I've sort of been on this plateau where I lose and gain. I stopped losing once the kids started getting sick in the fall of 2009. Then I lost weight when they stopped getting sick in the spring of 2010. Then my husband lost his job but got another one almost immediately but since his job has a sort of sales aspect to it it took a few months to build things back up and I was definitely stress eating and eating a bunch of crap because we couldn't afford a lot of fresh foods.
Then I lost some more and then the kids got sick again etc and now we are here after I've gained back 9.4 lbs. Now the math may not be adding up, but that is because the scale at the weight clinic is off compared to the scale at my gym. And since I have access to the scale at the gym more often, that is the number I will mainly use. So are you ready for my real number? It's 224.6 O_O YIKES! I don't like 218, but I definitely don't like 224.6 Especially since I've gained 9 of it recently and my clothes don't fit well.
So I'm going to make a chart to keep track of my measurements and my weight etc. I will list both the gym weight and the clinic weight.
I did start the hcg shots yesterday in addition to the adipex because it was only $10 more a week and it also had b12 in it which is another great energy booster.
I'm hoping that since the adipex gives you energy as well as suppressing your appetite, and since the b12 helps with energy too, that I will lose more weight even if I still have to miss the gym due to sick babies, because I will be more motivated to get up off my butt, stop looking at facebook and other websites, and perhaps be a better housekeeper.
So here are the goals:
Lose 60 lbs (so I'm under 160 according to the clinic scales)
Have more energy
Do better in school (cause these things are supposed to focus you as well)
Do a better job keeping my house clean
And to Put these things back where they came from!
What do I mean by that last one? Well I am hopefully having a tummy tuck done in March sometime. I want to lose at least 26 lbs before I get it done. I have to be under 200 lbs before I will do it. And I want that to be under 200 according to the gym scale, not the doctor's office scale.
I'm hoping for mid-march so I have time to recover and have most of the major swelling gone. Cause what good is a tummy tuck if your swelling makes you look bigger than what you are. Also I will lose 6 weeks at the gym (at least hard core exercising) and I will have to stop taking the adipex about 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the surgery. So I will be on my own for about 4 months. I really hope I make it through!
Wish me luck!
